The Magic of timely diversion and cheerleading misleads public

The effective political propagandist is a lot like the magician.

Timing is everything in politics and the game is perception management, mostly via media, to manipulate public opinion. Put out the bad news on late Friday for slow Saturday coverage. Manipulate the news cycle - if you're lucky, maybe your story can get "legs" and numerous outlets will maximize and repeat your message. Do something to change the subject to drive bad news out of the news. Some call it the "manufacture of consent" (Walter Lippman coined that phrase in the 1920's, not Noam Chomsky, the current intellectual).

I am the author of that piece.

I deleted it because I made a technical error - used the wrong date (Nov. 13) instead of December 13
